Originally from Arabic folklore. A malevolent demon that eats corpses and can shapeshift into the form of the person it has most recently devoured. Ghouls can carry on as a "mortal" without much suspicion, but do not hide their lack of appetite for mortal food well.
Ghoul is also used in modern times to describe a type of undead, more intelligent or possessed of self actualization than a zombie.
